Many clogged sinks

This was my final week as a 30-year old. I capped it off with four jobs in one day - the most calls I’ve scheduled in a single day.

The morning started off on Capitol Hill in a fantastic old condo building with ivy climbing up the brick walls. The owner of the unit I worked in was incredibly nice. She called me after receiving a $450+ quote from one of the big plumbing companies and in a stroke of luck, stumbled upon one of my fliers. Her issue was pretty simple, hair clogging up her bathroom drain. I had it unclogged in about 15 minutes, chatted with her for another 15 before heading down to Beacon Hill for call #2.

This is the third time - for three separate issues - the folks on Beacon Hill have called me. This time it was for an unstable toilet. I pulled the toilet off the flange, accidentally breaking it in the process. Luckily I had a repair flange in my van so was able to screw that into the subfloor, replace the toilet bolts, install a new wax ring, and properly reset the toilet. They had another issue with a different toilet, a bad fill valve that I’ll have to order online and return to install.

The next call brought me back to Queen Anne. The gentleman had a clogged toilet and a clogged bathroom sink. The toilet was clogged up with baby wipes his young kids keep flushing. Getting them out was a bit of a trick. My auger generally breaks blockages up and pushes them down. Here, though, the wipes were so many that I used the auger to hook a couple wipes at a time, pull them back out of the toilet and accumulate them in a rather nasty bucket. Once the toilet was cleared I went upstairs to the bathroom sink. It was a pedestal sink, something I’ve run into before. But this one was much more manageable and I was able to unclog it without too much trouble. While I was there, he also had a couple toilets whose chains were broken, so I installed new ones for him.

The last call of the day was an older fella on the top of Queen Anne. We called each other a couple times throughout the week to discuss scheduling. He was so pleasant and flexible with timing. When I arrived he extended the same warmth he had all week. His issue was really pretty simple as well, a clogged bathroom sink. The issue was really just in his P trap and pop up assembly. The assembly had also broken, so while I was under the sink I went ahead and reconnected it.

It was an amazing day of plumbing service. I couldn’t have asked for nicer people to work for. I look forward to many more days just like this one.
